2月11日（日曜日） Not so rough as yesterday, still the ship pitches a good deal. In the evening Dr. Martin gave us a talk on “the fine acts of the tragedies in Modern China”, beginning with the Opium War and ending with the Bexer Rehelliot. Incidentally he spoke of the Russo - Japanese War. We had another Chinese dinner tonight. This time it was half Japanese. Because we had norimaki with benishoga and sukiyaki which were very good. The Kigensetsu in Tokyo must have been celebrated with good enthusiasm this year. And well it may. May Japan long live and prosper to fulfil her great mission in the Far East! 海は昨日ほど荒れないが、船はまだかなり縦揺れしている。晩にドクター・マーティンが講演をした。「現代中国の悲劇における名場面」というテーマで、アヘン戦争から始め、最後は義和団の乱で締めくくった。その中で日露戦争にも少し触れた。今日の夕食はまた中国料理である。ただし半分和食であった。紅ショウガ入り海苔巻きや、すき焼きも並んだ。大変美味しかった。今年の紀元節は東京で熱狂的に祝われたことだろう。当然である。日本が長く繁栄し、極東での偉業を成し遂げられますように！
