9月25日（月曜日） I went there ［Seabright］ last Saturday ［Sept. 23］ afternoon taking a steamer from the port of W. 42nd St. At the station in Seabright a carriage was waiting for me. There were two gentlemen in it who I learned afterwards were the two of the sons of Mrs. Alexander by whom I was invited. She is an old lady （78 years old） but she came to the porch and welcomed me heartily …. Spent the evening till 10 in chatting with two brothers especially with Dr. Samuel Alexander who is a professor in the N.Y. branch of Cornell University. Then I sat up till after midnight in writing prayers for the morrow because I found out that there was going to be no other minister and I had to conduct the whole service. I went to bed about 12.30 but could not sleep. 先の土曜日［9月23日］にも午後に［シー・ブライトに］行った。西42丁目の港から汽船に乗った。駅で馬車が私を待ち受けていた。紳士が2人乗っており、後に彼らは招待してくれたミセス・アレキサンダーのご子息であると知る。夫人は年配［78歳］の女性であるが、ポーチまで出てきて暖かく迎えてくれた。……晩を2人の兄弟、特にドクター・サミュエル・アレキサンダーと談笑して10時まで過ごす。彼はコーネル大学ニューヨーク校の教授である。その後は夜中過ぎまで翌日の祈りを書いた。他に牧師がおらず、私が礼拝すべてを行うしかないとわかったためだ。12時30分ほどに床に就いたが、眠れなかった。
