7月22日（土曜日） We left London from the St. Pancreas station by 9.30 train and arrived at Edinburgh at 6.30 ［p.m.］ We came directly to the Cockburn Hotel recommended by Mr. Campbell of Tainan in his letter. And we found it very good and reasonable. It is a first class “Temperance Hotel”. Especially the table is good. セント・パンクラス駅から9時30分の列車でロンドンを発ち、エディンバラに〔午後〕6時30分に着く。すぐにコックバーン・ホテルに来た。台南のミスター・キャンベルの手紙で勧められたのだが、大変良いホテルで、かつ価格も手ごろである。一流の「テンペランス【酒類を出さない】ホテル」だ。特に食事が美味しい。
