7月4日（火曜日） Spent the morning in writing to home and also in buying a few souvenirs of the Exposition such as knifes, purses etc. …… This is my fifty-first birthday, as I look back forty years or so, I see many tokens of the leading of God’s hand in my life. Truly he has been good and gracious to me. May His goodness continue in future as in the past and may my life be more useful than ever! 午前中は家に手紙を書き、また博覧会でみやげになる物を買ってすごす。ナイフだの財布だのといったものだ。……今日は私の51歳の誕生日である。この40年ばかりを思い返してみると、人生に神の手が働いていたしるしを随所に見る。まことに神は私に優しく慈悲深かった。この恩恵が過去と同様に将来も続いてくれ、私の人生がさらに役立つものであってほしいと思う。
